Sara at check-in was the best! Arranged to surprise my daughter with a snack tray for her birthday and I didn’t ask she wanted to. Great rooms, clean and newer.
This hotel gets high marks from us for a number of reasons: First, the room was clean, well-equipped, and comfortable. There were numerous charging ports for our devices. Shampoo, Conditioner, and body wash were in the spacious shower, equipped with both fixed shower head and hand-held. Room can be either brightly or dimly lit (or in between) depending on which lights you choose. Floor-to-ceiling window provided an incredible view of city, freeway, and distant neighborhood. We looked down on St. Patrick’s church, whose bells seemed to be proclaiming, “I used to be the tallest building around here, but even though I’m now dwarfed, I’m still here!” The room layout was a little funny to us at first. A long desk sits in front of the window, partially blocking the view from the rest of the room. We realized after a while that the intention is to provide an inspiring view for anyone working at the desk. Then it made sense to us. There’s a mini-refrigerator inside the desk, suitable for our waters and restaurant leftovers. Our second high mark goes to location. Many sights are walkable, including Union Square, the Ferry Building, and AT&T Park. Architecture buffs, take note of the Hearst building nearby. We wished we could have looked inside. It’s being converted into a hotel, so maybe sometime soon. Our third high mark is for safety. My wife works for a non-profit that assists victims of sex trafficking, so we’re sensitive to suspicious situations. We noticed a suspicious-looking van pulling into the hotel’s porte-cochere, and the valet parking attendant thoroughly questioned the driver and inspected the van. Later we talked with a manager, who explained that all their staffers are trained for such situations. During our second night there were loud, drunk people on our floor making noise up until midnight, when we called the front desk. Security staff came quickly and set those people straight with authority. All the noise ended immediately. We were impressed. Our fourth high mark is for staff friendliness. They all have that good balance between friendliness and professionalism. We were staying at the hotel for two nights on a gift certificate, which included parking and breakfast. There was some confusion about where we were supposed to report for breakfast. On the first morning, front desk sent us with breakfast vouchers to the Globalist members lounge, where they had a breakfast buffet. On the second day, someone from that lounge said that we should be in the restaurant rather than the lounge. We had already begun, so they let us stay in the lounge. We really didn’t mind either way, but it was confusing. A manager came over and apologized for the confusion, explaining that the staffers were unclear about how to treat our gift-certificate arrangement. He said it would be a learning experience for them to improve their service going forward. None of it was traumatic to us, and we appreciated them going out of their way to keep us happy. We would be happy to return to this hotel. Their rates are out of our usual budget, but if we find a good sale, we would love to stay again.
The Hyatt Regency SF SOMA delivered on every front, but what truly set this stay apart was the thoughtful attention to guest wellbeing — from the gym to the smallest in-room details. The fitness center is genuinely one of the best hotel gyms I've encountered. It was always spacious and never crowded, with an impressive range of equipment: free weights, TRX, Peloton bikes, treadmills, rowing machines, yoga space — you name it. Whether you're a serious athlete or just want to stay consistent while traveling, this gym has you covered without compromise. Equally impressive were the hotel's sustainability initiatives. The in-room carafe system — refillable at a dedicated water and ice station — is a simple but meaningful swap from single-use plastic bottles. I appreciated that it didn't feel performative; it actually worked seamlessly day-to-day. The optional room delivery amenities were a standout touch. Having a yoga mat and scale available on request meant I could maintain my full routine without packing extra gear — the kind of detail that shows the hotel understands modern wellness travelers. And throughout it all, the staff were consistently warm and genuinely helpful. If you're looking for a city hotel that supports an active lifestyle without sacrificing comfort or convenience, this is it. Already planning a return stay.
